The gophers have returned to the backyard. There seem to be more of their rotten little holes every day.

Jeff roams the the yard, patrolling.

Rita prefers to select a hole and stare down it. An unwavering stare. For hours.

Jeff, however, will casually stroll near a hole – and then in a flash is swatting down the hole as far as he can reach. Staff assumes that eventually Jeff will pull out a very surprised gopher.

Yesterday Jeff and Norman had some sort of disagreement.

By the time Staff arrived it was all over, but the evidence remained.

So far Jeff has shown no lingering ill will toward Norman. But if Norman suddenly disappears, Staff will have an idea why.
Jeff and the dog shared the couch blanket today.

Admittedly, the dog did most of the actual sharing.

This is Jeff in his most favorite place in the yard: under the lavender shrub.

For some time Staff did not understand why this place is so special. When the other cats started competing for a chance to possess it, an investigation was launched.

As it turns out, there’s a nice patch of catnip randomly growing there.

When Jeff is through rolling in it, he sleeps on it. This has generally resolved any competition issues.
As it warms up, on sunny days the lizards start emerging. They rustle through the landscaping, causing Jeff to stalk the sunny rocks where lizards like to sit.

Recently Jeff caught a lizard, which escaped by trading its tail for its freedom. Staff predicts a steady increase in the number of tailless lizards.
